The Championship Course
A hole by hole description

FIRST HOLE - First - Par 4, 331 yards. A relatively easy opening to the round. Bunkers guard the entrance to the green on either side, and a well placed tee shot simplifies the approach.

SECOND HOLE - Ord - Par 3, 177 yards. Plateau green (one of many) with steep fall on both sides and rear. Two deep bunkers guard front of green, with a grassy mound between, which diverts s short shot into either bunker.

THIRD HOLE - Earls Cross - Par 4, 414 yards. Fairway slopes from left to right, with mound in centre to carry drive into one of three bunkers on right edge of fairway. Ridge with bent grass crosses fairway 30 yards short of green, which slopes from left to right. Bunker at left of entrance and another 6 or 7 yards right of middle of green. Long grass at back of green.

FOURTH HOLE - Achinchanter - Par 4, 427 yards. Fairway again slopes from left to right. On right there is a steep fall of 10ft. to rough grass between 4th and adjacent fairway. Whin bushes all along left of fairway. Plateau green guarded by two bunkers on left and two at foot of slope on right. Undulating green sloping sharply on right and rear into long grass.

FIFTH HOLE - Hilton - Par 354 yards. Fairway is 40ft. below tee level. Hillside on left is covered with bent and whins. Slight slope on fairway from left to right where there are three bunkers and several mounds from 7 to 10ft. covered with rough grass. Plateau green is kidney shaped and guarded by bunkers on front slope. Sharp fall on right of green to bare lie, and slope at rear into long grasses. Two bunkers on left of green with grassy hollow between. Position of flag dictates best line from tee.

SIXTH HOLE - Whinny Brae - Par 3, 163 yards. Plateau green built into hillside. Thick whins on hillside on left, also 3 bunkers on left edge of green. Large bunker at right of slope at entrance to green. Steep fall of 12ft. at rear and right of green.

SEVENTH HOLE - Pier - Par 4, 463 yards. Heather and whins on left of fairway, and whins on right. Two bunkers on left at drive length. Bunkers on left and right guarding green. Whins 10 yards from putting surface on left and long grass at rear.

EIGHTH HOLE - Dunrobin - Par 4, 396 yards. A slightly dog-leg hole to left with a steep slope diagonally across fairway about 200 yards from tee down to lower level 50ft. below. Grassy and whin covered quarry on right of fairway at drive length. Green is saucer shaped and guarded by 4 bunkers one 15 yards short and right of green, two on left edge and one on right edge.

NINTH HOLE - Craiglaith - Par 5, 496 yards. Bent grass and sandy beach along entire length of left of fairway. Long grass and whins on right at drive length. Plateau green except at rear. Two bunkers at foot of slope on right and one on left. Another bunker on left of green midway along surface.

TENTH HOLE - Fuaran - Par 3, 147 yards. Plateau green except at front where three bunkers guard green at edge of putting surface. Another bunker at foot of steep slope on left. Sea hazard on left for hooked tee shot; whin bushes on right for slice. Long grass at foot of slope to rear of green. Height of slopes 10ft. on left and rear and 6ft. on right.

ELEVENTH HOLE - A'chlach - Par 4, 446 yards. Green bordered on right by shallow grassy gully and on left by steep slope 10ft. deep. Large bunker at foot of slope on left entrance. Another bunker cuts slightly into green halfway along on right.

TWELFTH HOLE - Sutherland - Par 5, 507 yards. The direction of the tee shot is important at this dog-leg (R to L) hole. Large grassy mound left of centre at front of green, and bunker on right presenting a narrow approach. Green falls away to large grassy hollow beyond and slightly left of grassy mound at right.

THIRTEENTH HOLE - Bents - Par 3, 166 yards. Green guarded by 7 bunkers and steep fall of 15ft. to a grassy hollow between front and midway bunkers on right.

FOURTEENTH HOLE - Foxy - Par 4, 445 yards. Well named "Foxy". The only hole without a bunker, it has a plateau green on a promontory broad on right and narrowing to some 8 or 9 yards on left. The steep rise at the front of the green varies from 5ft. on the left to 10ft. on the right. The left of the fairway is a wide expanse of mounds with bent grassy and mossy patches. Right of the fairway are several grassy promontories jutting out towards the fairway and guarding the right of the green.

FIFTEENTH HOLE - Stulaig - Par 4, 319 yards. Thick bent guards left of fairway which has a large grassy mound in the centre some 18ft. high. Another plateau green with slopes at front and rear.

SIXTEENTH HOLE - High Hole - Par 4, 402 yards. Whins to right of fairway. Large grassy quarry 50ft. on left of fairway. Steep slope in fairway at drive length, and green is guarded by several mounds covered with rough grass.

SEVENTEENTH HOLE - Valley - Par 4, 405 yards. Thick whins on both sides of fairway. Diagonal slope across fairway 180 yards from tee down to fairway level 40ft. below. Plateau green is some 15ft. above fairway level at front, and is guarded by a bunker on the left and three on the right.

EIGHTEENTH HOLE - Home - Par 4, 456 yards. Fairway guarded by rough grass on right and whins on left. 30 yards short of green are two bunkers on left and one on right. A shallow grass gully 3ft. deep and 5 yards wide guards front and right of green.
