How far in advance do I have to book a round of golf?
Tee times are available up to 15 months in advance.
Can I book online?
Online booking facility is available at by clicking here.
When do I pay my green fees?
The full payment is settled at the time of the booking.
Do you accept payments by card?
Yes, we accept Visa, Master Card, and American Express.
How can I move a tee time I have already booked?
Subject to availability, tee times can be moved to a date within the same year at no additional charge. To make this change please email bookings@royaldornoch.com
If I have to cancel my round can I receive a refund?
Cancellations received more than 8 weeks prior to the date of play will be refunded in full. Between 4 – 8 weeks there will be a 50% cancellation charge. Those received less than 4 weeks before the date of play are non-refundable, however, the unused times will not be resold and will, therefore, be available for the groups use. We regret that we cannot offer refunds due to delayed/canceled flights or travel plans, personal injury or illness or similar circumstances, please ensure you read our terms and conditions. We recommend that you have travel insurance to cover this eventuality.

Do you have handicap restriction on the course?
We find golfers, regardless of handicap, enjoy the Royal Dornoch Experience if they can keep up with the pace of play. We advise that golfers with a handicap for men 24 or below and women 30 or below would find the Championship Course suitable.
Royal Dornoch Struie Course is open to all players, of all ages and ability.
Must I bring my current handicap certificate?
No.
Will I get paired with someone?
Yes, we offer tee times at an individual rate, but to accommodate demand and ensure individuals have the opportunity to enjoy a round with other golfers, we usually look to create 4 balls after 9am tee off times.
If you would like exclusivity purchasing all 4 slots will guarantee this.
Tee times before 9 am are for 2ball play only.
We are making a group booking how can we guarantee we will be playing together?
We cannot guarantee that you will be all playing together, but endeavor to ensure that groups are in sequential tee-times. You may be joined by other individuals or pairs to make up 4 balls. Should you like to guarantee exclusivity for the tee times chosen then booking all 4 playing slots will guarantee this.
Can I book both the Championship and Struie Course?
Yes – we offer special rates for booking both Royal Dornoch courses. Bookings can be made by contacting bookings@royaldornoch.com
How much earlier than my booked tee time must I arrive?
We recommend you arrive at least 30minutes before your tee time. This will allow you to book all players in, there is also changing facilities within the Clubhouse. Should you wish food or refreshments before your round you can reserve a table by emailing catering@royaldornoch.com
When is the course closed?
We only close the Championship Course for extremely bad weather such as thunder and lightning, frost & snow. This is rare and in the last 5 years, the Championship Course has not been closed between May and October.
Royal Dornoch Struie Course is open for play all year round in all conditions.
Caddies
Do I need to request a caddie before arriving?
It is advisable to request a caddie before arriving to avoid disappointment. Caddies cannot be guaranteed but every effort is made to satisfy all requests.
How much is the caddie fee?
For 2016 our individual caddie fee is £45 plus gratuity. Junior caddie is £25 plus gratuity. Forecaddies are available on request. The gratuity is entirely at the golfer’s discretion. Fees to be paid directly on the day. Caddies allocated but not required on the day will incur the full caddie fee.
On the Course
How long does a round take?
Our pace of play guideline for a 4 ball on the Championship Course is 4 hours. We monitor the speed of play over the summer months and request that players keep up with the match in front.
Royal Dornoch Struie Course is 3 hours 45 minutes for 18 holes.
Our Pace of Play is indicated on our scorecard.
Are there any restrictions for golfers with disabilities?
We welcome all golfers those with disabilities are advised to contact us in advance regarding golf course conditions and accessibility for mobile buggies.
What does your practice facilities comprise of and how much does it cost to use them?
There are practice facilities available at Dornoch including an area with covered bays, short game practice area, bunker and putting green. Use of the practice facilities is included in the green fee. The covered bays are located near the airstrip beside the Struie Course and you are required to provide your own golf balls.
Can I buy refreshments during the round?
Yes. There is a well-stocked halfway house situated by the 10th tee on the Championship Course. This is open everyday from May to September from 8.30am to 6pm, although times can vary due to tee bookings and everyday throughout the summer.
Are there on course toilet facilities?
Yes. Championship Course toilets are situated at the halfway house beside 10th tee on the Championship Course. The Struie Course toilet is situated 5th tee/6th Green
Do you have a bad weather policy?
Yes, we do. If we have to close the course we offer golfers the possibility to re-schedule their tee time. Should this not be possible we offer a refund. As a Scottish Club, we play in all conditions except thunder and lighting, it is therefore unlikely that the course will be closed over the summer months. We do not offer bad weather refunds for wind or rain.
How can I find out about the course conditions?

Club House
How can I book a table for a meal before or after my game?
This can be accommodated if you ask at the time of booking – and a table can be reserved by emailing catering@royaldornoch.com
Can non-playing visitors use the Club House?
As a sports club, we must abide the licensing laws and the following outlines the use of the clubhouse.
Playing Visitor – as a day member the clubhouse and all the facilities are open for you to enjoy, before and after your round of golf.
Non Playing Visitor – we are able to welcome visitors who are members of other Golf Clubs throughout Scotland. We will ask to see proof of membership.
Partners/Family of paying visitors – we are pleased to welcome playing visitors family and partners to Royal Dornoch Clubhouse.
Are there changing facilities?
Yes – we have visitors changing facilities and locker rooms for both men and women. Lockers are available for day hire by visitors.
Hire Items
Are push trollies available?
Yes, push trollies are available on the day. Power trollies are available on request prior to the round.
Are buggies allowed on the course?
Buggies are only available for medical reasons. A medical certificate and driving licence are required. You are required to reserve through the Office prior to arrival.
Are golf clubs available for hire?
Club hire with prior booking can be arranged. Requests must be made through the office.
Are golf clothes & shoes available for hire?
No.
In the Clubhouse
What is the dress code?
We request smart casual attire. Golf caps, collarless shirts and metal spikes are not to be worn in the clubhouse.
Are spikes allowed in the clubhouse?
Soft spike only.
Do you have a gratuity policy in the clubhouse?
The gratuity is entirely at the golfers´ discretion.
Is smoking permitted in the club house and on the course?
Scotland has a no smoking policy within public buildings; therefore the clubhouse runs a strict no smoking policy. Smoking on the course is possible and we kindly ask that you respect the course and grounds and dispose of your cigarette stubs responsibly at the appropriate places around the course.
Do you have Wi-Fi internet access?
We do have Wi-Fi internet access in the clubhouse free of charge. The wireless password is available on request at the bar.
Mobiles
In the Clubhouse please be considerate in their use. They should not be audible in the main lounge/bar but may be used in silent mode to send and receive data. Phone calls may be made and received outwith this area.
Does the golf shop have an online purchasing facility?
Yes – the Pro shop offers an online shop.

Do you have accommodation on site?
Our golfers book at a number of hotels and guest houses in the Dornoch area. For more information check our accommodation section.
Can I join Royal Dornoch Golf Club?
Yes. Golf has been played on the present site since 1616 and the club has been established since 1877. Membership queries should be made through the club office.
Where else can I play in the surrounding area?
Golfers who enjoy playing at Dornoch would most probably also enjoy – Highland Golf Links courses.

How far is Dornoch from Inverness Airport?
Dornoch is located approx. 50 miles north of Inverness airport on the A96/A9. Allow 1 hour 15 minutes driving time.
What is the time difference between Dornoch and the USA/ Canada?
It is five hours from the east coast and eight hours from the west coast.
