Past Champions Mark Cup Centenary June 21, 2022 ROYAL Dornoch Golf Club has marked the centenary of The Sutherland County Cup competition. Senior members and past champions gathered at the clubhouse to receive a memento marking their year as the area’s champion golfer. Hamish Sutherland (1964), former club professional Willie Skinner (1967) and Sanders MacDonald (1972) received their awards from Jim Miller, who amassed an amazing 15 victories. The Sutherland County Cup, which was won this year for an eighth time by Brora’s Christopher “Chippy” Mailley, is engraved “Presented by Royal Dornoch Golf Club to the Clubs in Sutherland in membership with the Northern District Association of the SGU for Annual Competition – 1922.” Other former champions receiving commemorative trophies are: James Smith, Alan Junor, Stewart Wilson, David Aitchison, Jimmy Gunn, Dougal Chalmers, Kevin Matheson, David Pearson, Alexander MacDonald and Chippy Mailley. With no competition held in 2020 and during the WW2 years, the cup has been won by Golspie 9 times, with Brora on 29 and Royal Dornoch on 56.
