WILLIE TURNS 90 AND BEGINS COUNTING DOWN TO THE NEW SEASON March 29, 2023 RETIRED Royal Dornoch head professional Willie Skinner has celebrated his 90th birthday. The golf club teed-up photographer Matthew Harris to mark the occasion with a portrait on his beloved Championship Course. The pair headed out to the 7th tee, which enjoys one of the finest views over the famous links. “I never tire of the golf course,” said Willie. “I was playing with the old boys last summer in a buggy – I even won one of our weekly Stableford competitions – and I’m hoping to be getting out again this season.” Willie served as the professional from 1973-1998, before being followed by son Andrew in the role. He was a six times club champion and the 1958 Carnegie Shield winner before being tempted to swap a career as a dental technician to take up the reins at his local club. Willie’s golfing chums marked the milestone with a gathering in the clubhouse and he was delighted that the messages of congratulations included best wishes from the team at PGA Scotland.
