ROYAL DORNOCH HAS EYES ON REACHING £50,000 COMMUNITY BENEFIT FIGURE

The internationally renowned Royal Dornoch Golf Club has this year set its sights on reaching a £50,000 target in donations from a fund set up five years ago.

Local groups benefit annually from the club’s community fund which uses a percentage of the net green fee income from visiting players.

Last year Royal Dornoch distributed £10,500 to a range of organisations, bringing the total amount donated since the fund was set up five years ago to £38,500.

The club is now seeking the first applications for 2020, with the aim of reaching the £50,000 donations milestone this year.

Neil Hampton, Royal Dornoch Golf Club’s general manager, said: “The community fund has been very successful in assisting a wide variety of good causes close to the club.

“The aim this year is to reach the £50,000 mark which would be a fantastic achievement and demonstrate how seriously we take our role in the community.”

Applications for funding should be sent, no later than Friday, 14 February 2020, to Neil Hampton at Royal Dornoch Club Golf, Golf Rd, Dornoch IV25 3LW or neil@royaldornoch.com

Applicants should provide details about their organisation, what the funding will be used for and how it will benefit their work and the area.

The overriding criterion is that awards must be used for the purpose of contributing to the common good of the local community.

The fund is controlled by Royal Dornoch’s Council of Management. Organisations based within the IV25 postcode can apply for donations of up to £500 with payments determined by a committee comprising three past club captains and two representatives from Dornoch Area Community Council. Organisations can apply for more than one project.

The most recent donations include those to help restore the school garden at Dornoch Academy, buy new kitchen equipment at Dornoch Fire Station, a new boat trailer for Dornoch and District Angling Association, and transport for summer activities for 1^st Dornoch Boys Brigade.

In addition to the community fund, Royal Dornoch’s club captains also donate to charities. Last year their fundraising efforts raised more than £6,000, bringing the total over five years to £36,000.
