Coronavirus – Royal Dornoch Update

As you are aware we are in unprecedented times with the advent of the Coronavirus and the effects worldwide.

I now write to update you on the effect it may have on our club and the measures the Council of Management intend to adopt to minimise the risk to the club, its members and visitors.

Obviously our thoughts are with the human aspect of each individual’s health so it is worth reiterating the general advice from the government.

  • Washing your hands more often – with soap and water for at least 20 seconds or use a hand sanitiser when you get home or into work, when you blow your nose, sneeze or cough, eat or handle food.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands.
  • Avoid close contact with people who have symptoms.
  • Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in a bin and wash your hands.
  • Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces in the home.

 

In the golfing environment there are also things we can do:

  • No handshakes – try elbow bumps or thumbs up
  • Don’t’ handle the pin, leave it in the hole and carefully remove your ball
  • Enjoy your walk down the fairway, just not side by side
  • If you need to rake the bunker use your gloved hand, or if not, sanitise immediately afterwards
  • Don’t touch or move your playing partners equipment
  • While you can’t mark your own card in competitions be careful when swapping them over before and after the round and sanitise your hands properly

 

There are also those who have an Increased risk of severe illness and this group includes those who are:

  • Aged 70 or older (regardless of medical conditions)
  • Under 70 with an underlying health condition
  • Those who are pregnant

 

We are very conscious that you are more vulnerable but are still very welcome to play the courses and use the facilities during which time we will respect your needs and ensure we do all that we can to keep you safe from infection.

We will regularly meet with our management teams during this time to establish appropriate strategies.

As always our priority will be to maintain the high quality of our major assets, the courses, and in particular the Championship Course.

The clubhouse will currently remain open with full bar and catering facilities in operation and I ask all members to respect and follow government guidelines and if returning from other countries to avoid visiting the clubhouse for an appropriate period of time.

Likewise some members may wish to play golf and avoid the clubhouse and I would leave it up to individuals to make their own assessment. A common sense approach, in line with government advice, is best in these circumstances.

We will monitor the situation regarding competitions over the coming days, weeks and months and react as events evolve.

In the meantime I wish to reassure you the Council of Management, subcommittees, departmental managers and our advisors will keep abreast of world events, government guidelines and react accordingly.

Finally, may I wish you, family and friends good health in these difficult times and I will update you on events as they develop.
