Free Rounds Offer for NHS and Care Workers a Success

NHS and care staff enjoyed the thrill of 360 rounds at Royal Dornoch Golf Club during the summer thanks to their kind offer of free golf on both courses.

The renowned Highland venue made the gesture from May for a six-week period as a thanks for the sterling work of key health staff during the global Covid-19 pandemic.

The opportunity from Royal Dornoch – voted Best Golf Course in Scotland at the 2020 World Golf Awards – was open to those health staff who are currently members of a golf club and have a valid WHS handicap index.

In total, there were 300 rounds on the Championship Course and 60 on the Struie Course, with the offer allowing players one round on each of the highly regarded links layouts.

Among feedback responses received from NHS and care staff, one said: “I just want to thank Royal Dornoch for their extremely kind gesture in allowing NHS staff to play for free on both Royal Dornoch and the Struie. I had the opportunity to play with an ex-colleague and we had the most amazing three days away.”

Another player added: “I just wanted to send you, the Club Captain and Committee our grateful thanks for being so thoughtful and courteous in extending a welcome to NHS workers.”

Finally, another said: “The Struie Course was good fun, but the Championship Course was absolutely incredible. What a gem, topped off by an amazing facility, very welcoming staff and we were even given some local tips by members. The NHS offer was a wonderful gesture which won’t be quickly forgotten.”

Neil Hampton, General Manager at Royal Dornoch, remarked: “In recognition of the outstanding contribution of NHS and care workers to saving lives since the beginning of the pandemic, we were delighted to invite health staff from near and far to come and enjoy our wonderful links courses.

“It was great to see so many golfers take up our offer and we thank them once more for their sterling work in the health service over the last 18 months.”

The move continues the charitable work Royal Dornoch are well renowned for, both locally and nationally. Back in February, the club maintained its support for the Scottish wildcat, one of the country’s most endangered species, after raising a further £2,840 through the support of its members.
