ROYAL DORNOCH PLANS TO MARK THE DEATH OF THE QUEEN

 

THE historic links and clubhouse facilities at Royal Dornoch Golf Club will close on Monday, September 19 to mark the State Funeral of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

Flags have been flying at half-mast at the clubhouse in recent days and the Council of Management made the decision to close on the day of the funeral to allow members and staff to pay their own respects to the longest-serving monarch in British history.

The club was granted Royal status by King Edward VII in 1906.

“As a Royal Golf Club, this is a very sad time for us all and I’m sure our members at home and abroad, along with our staff, will want to take a moment or two on the day of the funeral for their own reflections on the life of the Queen,” said general manager Neil Hampton.

Many older local members fondly recall the visit of Her Majesty and the Duke of Edinburgh to Dornoch in 1964.

The Sandy Pipey Young Masters tournament scheduled for the Monday of the funeral at Royal Dornoch has been cancelled by the PGA. It has been reduced to a single round event on the Sunday.

The club has contacted those with bookings for the Championship and Struie Courses on September 19.

Golf will continue as normal on the Sunday and resume on the Tuesday morning following the State Funeral.
