TIN WHISTLES’ ROSS SCROLL FOR CLUBHOUSE 

 

ROYAL Dornoch has received a framed scroll from an American club sharing a common bond.

Following celebrations on either side of the Atlantic to mark the 150th anniversary of the birth of legendary course architect and one-time Dornoch professional Donald Ross, a surprise package was delivered to the clubhouse.

The Tin Whistles, based in Pinehurst, is the oldest continuous golfing society in the USA. It can trace roots back to 1904.

Royal Dornoch general manager Neil Hampton said: “It was a lovely thought on behalf of The Tin Whistles to send the scroll to Royal Dornoch following our Zoom gathering which celebrated the role played by Donald Ross here in his native Dornoch and later at Pinehurst.”

The scroll, signed by Tin Whistles club captain John McClain and president Mark Boynton, notes that Ross was a founder member of The Tin Whistles and “blessed our members with widely praised golfing facilities, most notably the world famous Pinehurst #2.”
