POTENTIAL TRAVEL DELAYS WARNING FOR THE SUMMER

 

GOLFERS travelling to Royal Dornoch over the summer should be aware of potential traffic hold-ups on the main A9 north-south route.

Motorists are being warned that a new road and bridge project on the outskirts of Perth, around 150 miles to the south of Dornoch, will see a contraflow being introduced – creating the prospect of major traffic hold-ups on both legs of any journey.

Normally, the drive takes around three hours, with our international members and visitors often flying into Edinburgh and Glasgow before hiring transport for the onward journey.

A contraflow on the A9 at Perth is already in place.

Another phase is scheduled to begin on June 24, lasting around 10 weeks to the end of August – the peak of the Scottish holiday season.

Royal Dornoch general manager Neil Hampton said: “These roadworks are far removed from Dornoch but the vast majority of travellers making for the Highlands have to use the A9 route.

“While some of our visitors opt to fly into Inverness Airport, an hour’s drive from Dornoch, the majority will be driving.

“There were reports of frustrating eight-mile tailbacks at Perth during the Easter break and now motorists are being warned of potential traffic jams – hopefully on a lesser scale – over the summer holiday period.

“Given these concerns, anyone driving to and from the Central Belt of Scotland to golf here at Royal Dornoch is being advised to build-in potential delays to their travel plans this summer.”
