ROYAL DORNOCH TO THE FORE AGAIN

 

ROYAL Dornoch Golf Club again figures highly in a prestigious golfing magazine’s annual rankings.

The Championship Course comes in at number four in the latest “Today’s Golfer/Golf World Top 100: Best Links Golf Courses in Great Britain and Ireland.”

The list, perhaps inevitably, is topped by The Old Course at the Home of Golf, with Royal County Down and Turnberry’s Ailsa Course making up the top three.

The panel’s review of Royal Dornoch hails our 14th hole “Foxy” “among the world’s finest.”

Club general manager Neil Hampton said: “That is quite an accolade and it is one of many celebrated holes on our links, although the celebrated Par 4 is unusual in not having any bunkers for players to look out for.

“It is always nice to feature to the fore on these lists and, once again, Royal Dornoch is in fine company.”

The “Today’s Golfer” glowing review reads: “Play Royal Dornoch on a sunny summer evening and get a glimpse of Heaven. Your appreciation grows with each and every visit. One of the finest natural links in the world.”

Other courses in the Highlands and on the Moray coast to get a mention in the top 100 are Moray Old (Lossiemouth), Nairn, Brora, Skibo Castle and Cabot Highlands (Castle Stuart).

Earlier in the year, Royal Dornoch featured in the same magazine’s “2023 Top 100 Best Golf Courses in the World,” as their international experts assessed ‘the best lay-outs on the planet.”

The Championship Course was placed number five, between Muirfield and Turnberry. The Old Course and Royal County Down topped the charts, with Royal Melbourne in third place.
