OAKLEY MEMBERS MARK DONALD’S BIRTHDAY
OAKLEY Country Club members have special cause for raising a glass to toast the birthday of Donald Ross.
The man from Dornoch was lured to the club near Boston and went on to forge a successful career in the United States.
His impact on the Watertown club is still felt to this day, with the Ross imprint left on the course.
It was the first of more than 400 that Ross crafted in the States.
To mark the 152nd birthday of the Highlander, Oakley Country Club called upon the services of piper Patrick McClellan to lead the celebrations.
Despite suffering broken ribs just two days earlier, Patrick led a march around the hilltop clubhouse looking out over the twinkling lights of Boston.
Drams were raised indoors, where a painting of the legendary golf architect enjoys pride of place.
