LORNE’S CLASSIC AMONG THE GOLFING GREATS

IT’S nice to see Lorne Rubenstein’s classic “A Season in Dornoch” featuring among “The 15 Most Important Golf Books of the 21st Century.”

Writer Tony Dear was invited to compile his personal list for an article in Links Magazine.

No easy task but he embarked on a mission to create a list of books “which are so indelible that they will be read, enjoyed, studied and loved for decades.”

Scotland, links golf and the characters feature to the fore when it comes to the subject matter.

Canadian journalist Lorne, who was given honorary membership of Royal Dornoch in recognition of the part his book has played in enticing North Americans to make the pilgrimage to the Highlands, has penned around 20 books during an illustrious career.

But his three month stay in Dornoch, getting to know the golf courses, the people and the history of the area, provided the inspiration for one of the great golfing books.
