100 DAYS UNTIL CARNEGIE SHIELD WEEK

THE countdown has begun to the biggest week on the Royal Dornoch calendar.

In 100 days’ time the first of 270 competitors will tee off on the Championship Course as the 112th Carnegie Shield gets under way.
It’s always a highlight of the summer, creating a buzz around the clubhouse and in the town.

Golfers from around the UK and far beyond who were successful in the ballot will be competing for one of the most historic trophies in club golf.

The story behind the stunning Shield is as captivating as the craftsmanship.

It was gifted to the club by member and philanthropist Andrew Carnegie – then among the wealthiest men in the world – for play in 1901.
Manufactured by highly skilled silversmiths in Glasgow, the now priceless Shield cost £120 and the design reflects the strong bonds which endure to this day between Royal Dornoch, the town and the USA.

The Shield enjoys pride of place in the new clubhouse, with a video allowing admirers to enjoy close-ups of the detailed engravings, which include various historic town buildings.
