PINEHURST POLICE CHIEF’S KIND GESTURE

THERE are strong and long-standing ties between Royal Dornoch and Pinehurst in the USA.

That was underlined during a recent personal visit to the Highlands by Police Chief Glen Webb.

During his time in town, Glen took time to present Police Medallions to Royal Dornoch general manager Neil Hampton and Provost of Dornoch and community council chair, Catherine Macangus, and Alison Davies, chair of the Historylinks Museum.

The Village of Pinehurst Facebook page highlighted the visit, noting: “Pinehurst and Dornoch share a unique historic bond through famed golf course architect Donald Ross, who was born in Dornoch before helping shape Pinehurst into the community known around the world today.”

Neil said staff at the new clubhouse were already welcoming American golfers for the 2026 season and he welcomed Police Chief Webb’s gesture.

“The ties between the two golfing communities formed through our mutual Donald Ross connection seem to get stronger and stronger with each passing year,” he said.

“Glen was on holiday in the Highlands with his family and we were delighted he made time in his schedule to pay us a visit.

“Many of our visitors from the States take in Donald’s family home in the town during their trips and I’m sure the Police Chief would have learned more about this famous son of Dornoch when he visited our local museum, which naturally highlights Donald’s early career here as greenkeeper and our first professional.”
