MAPPING OUT PLANS TO HOST THE 2028 CURTIS CUP 

The dust has just settled on Team USA’s 13-7 victory in the 44th Curtis Cup at Bel-Air Country Club.

But already the management team at Royal Dornoch are preparing the groundwork for hosting the next match between the United States of America and Great Britain and Ireland.

General manager Neil Hampton admits seeing the biennial clash between the best women amateur golfers on both sides of the Atlantic at close quarters has whetted the appetite for welcoming the event to the Scottish Highlands in the summer of 2028.

The Championship Course has successfully hosted various amateur competitions in tandem with The R&A in the past and the Curtis Cup will be the highest profile to date.

In an interview at Bel-Air Country Club in Los Angeles, Neil highlighted the close relationship Royal Dornoch enjoys with The R&A, the club’s commitment to showcasing the finest amateur golfing talent from home and abroad, and the first-class, off-course facilities now on offer with the recent opening of the fabulous new clubhouse.

He highlighted the benefits of speaking to those directly involved in organising the LA event, and seeing at close quarters what the match match involved, as Royal Dornoch prepares to follow in Bel-Air’s footsteps “but in a very Scottish way.”

Spectators coming to the links at Dornoch will enjoy the opportunity to be close to the action “to understand what it takes to be a player of this calibre and what it takes to play the shots they are making.”

Reflecting on the excitement generated by the new clubhouse, Neil said: “It is such a great building.

“I think we have caught the imagination of The R&A with this facility, because of what we can provide off the golf course and perhaps what will be much bigger championships in the future.”
