ARCHIVES DUO HONOUR “RICHLY DESERVED”

ROYAL Dornoch has awarded Life Membership to dedicated archives duo Eileen Macrae and Christine Callingham.

The honour reflects the dedication of the ladies in unearthing and collating memorabilia stored in the old clubhouse – and playing a key role in plans to showcase trophies, clubs and other artefacts within the new clubhouse which has welcomed members and visitors this season.

General manager Neil Hampton said the accolade was “richly deserved.”

He noted: “The club awards Life Membership only in very special circumstances.

“Individuals being recognised have to show ongoing commitment to the aims and objectives of Royal Dornoch and to furthering its international reputation.

“In the case of Christine and Eileen, the club is reaping the rewards of all their hard work and patience behind the scenes.

“Not only did they scour the old building from top to bottom to see what had been tucked away in dusty boxes and carrier bags over many years, their painstaking work paved the way to collating items for the archives room which will be appreciated by future generations.

“Royal Dornoch has a wonderful history and we celebrate our 150th anniversary next year.

“Christine and Eileen worked hand-in-glove with exhibition specialists Mather and Co to ensure that our history can be savoured by members and guests alike.”
